Sunflower Lanyard Scheme

Home / Sunflower Lanyard Scheme

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.

The lanyard can help you move through airports quicker, reduce the time waiting in lines, allow you a place to sit down, for example.

The lanyard is recognised around the world.  Scroll down to find your country’s page here: Your Local Sunflower

The Hidden Disabilities website has detailed information on the scheme, and how it works.

There is no need to disclose to anyone why you are wearing the lanyard.  It may be for a hidden condition such as autism, anxiety or Crohn’s.  However, it may also be for a temporary condition such as a broken ankle.

They have compiled a useful FAQ: Facts

You can purchase a sunflower lanyard from the Hidden Disabilities’ website for a small processing fee.  However, there are also many places you can get a lanyard for free. These include Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Argos, and most UK airports.  Some universities offer them to students free of charge.

Ask in the stores at the Customer Service desk.

Where it is a young child who needs the additional assistance, the adult accompanying the child can wear the lanyard.

When purchasing a lanyard, ensure the lanyard has a safety breakaway clasp fitted.
